Food:

Make sure he has lots of fresh drinking water.

1.5 kgs of frozen dog food and 1 cup of dry dog food per day split into two servings - only feed AFTER exercise.

Medicine:

Eye drops:
Spersadex 1 mg/ml
1 drop in each eye once a day if eyes are red or have a lot of discharge around them.

Prednisolon 20 mg
1/2 a tablet every other day. These are to stop him from licking his paws.

Rimadyl
These are pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs - only give these if he develops a noticeable limp. Go easy on the exercise. Don't let him jump.
1 1/2 tablets twice a day, and stop the above medication whilst giving him Rimadyl.
You should not have to give him these.

There are snake bite tablets in the glove compartment of the car. If required please administrate and ensure he gets to the duty vet straight away. Avoid having him move.

If you find a tick on him, it has to be removed immediately. His grooming bag has tweezers and two green hooked things which are excellent for removing ticks. Make certain you remove the head of the tick and give the little chap a treat afterwards.

He has a tick collar.

Food:

He always has to have lots of fresh drinking water.

Kin eats three twice (2) a day. 750 grams of thawed dog sausage twice a day with ~ 1/2 a cup of dry dog food, just to make his poo softer.

This is 1.5 kgs of dog sausage/day, but if he's less active he needs less.

Generally he has 1 or 2 days when he doesn't eat his food.

Often he can be 'tricked' into eating food by putting the small foil dog foods into his food.

Food is normally put out ~ 20 minutes after a walk, after ~ 1 hr it goes in the fridge if he hasn't eaten it.

If he finishes his food and asks for more, give him more; it's possible that he won't eat the next day.

He cannot eat directly after exercise. He must be calm before eating, giant breeds stomachs can turn over if they are excited or have exercise immediately before food.

He cannot exercise for a minimum of an hour after food. If he does there is a significantly elevated chance that his stomach will rotate, which is often fatal for giant breed dogs.

Wet food is stored in the freezer in the basement

Walks:

He normally has two walks a day. If he shows any sign of limping come slowly back to the house. Keep an eye on him. He's not great with hot weather, he needs shade, and he loves to swim, although if you can get him dry please do as otherwise he can suffer from skin conditions.

When he's outside please make sure he has a harness or collar on. He is chipped.

Vet:

At the moment we are using Stavanger smådyr klinikk:

So they have his records there.
He is chipped and up to date with vaccinations.

He's insured with If.

General Rules:

1.  No exercise for minimum of 1 1/2 hrs after food.

2. He must have access to fresh water.

3.  No jumping.

4.  No going on furniture.

5.  No begging. He only gets food in the hall or the garden, no giving him food from the table.

6.  Kin tends to be skeptical, if he gets spooked he will resist... try not to spook him and try not to force him if he gets spooked.

7.  Suggest avoiding kids, and other dogs. Some age of kids scare him, especially when they are loud and come towards him. If a dog pumps himself up then Kin will do the same as he gets nervous - suggest avoiding breeds that can have a tendency to being aggressive - with bitches it's no problem.
